The Shillong Press Club (SPC), a body of journalists in the State has lodged a FIR against a social media user for inciting hatred against the press fraternity.
SPC president, David Laitphlang and general secretary, Powell D Sohkhlet in the FIR to Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger today said that one Lester J.K. Ryngki uploaded a post with instigating statement on a facebook group – ‘Ka Sur U Paidbah’.
Ryngki had posted a screenshot of the SPC statement condemning the threat of the outlawed HNLC, as well as posted his comment in Khasi when translated says, “The media cannot be trusted. It is befitting for the HNLC to do its job and not to issue statements. Work speaks louder than words…Then no one can hide. The public will be the press media especially in this generation.”
The SPC said, “The transcript of the profane text tantamount to direct incitement of hatred and mayhem against the press fraternity and this has been taken very seriously by one and all.”
Seeking action against the perpetrator as per the laws of the land the SPC suggested, “It is time that such evil thoughts, ideas and reckless statements are put under a proper scanner by the designated authority and checked as directed by the law in time, before they corrode the minds of the scores of innocents still around.”
