As observed around the world, SPARK Meghalaya too, like any other year, celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child today by making all the necessary efforts to empower, build and amplify the voices of the young girls.
Stressing on the theme for the year – “Digital Generation, Our Generation”, an awareness programme was held to introduce them and build up the capacity of the girl child about the digital world providing the necessary information about the same.
From going to school to helping in household work, to working in the factories, caring for the elders and younger family members and finally preparing themselves to take on the responsibilities of adulthood, they excel in every field. Hence, there is no denial to the fact that girls play important and multiple roles in the household, society and the economy as well.
However, the girl child has always got a raw deal made worse by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. It is very much needed to work to ensure that she gets every opportunity to realise her potential.
Therefore by celebrating, protecting and educating the girl child, SPARK has been taking sincere initiatives for several years to empower “Our Daughters” leading to the empowerment of the communities, society and the nation as a whole.
The aim is to give them an equal chance to grow. The main effort is to stand for the rights of the girl child for better representation of girls in all their diversity.
SPARK has also come across several cases of crime against girl children during the Covid pandemic. Hence, special training was provided to them and the communities in different areas to protect girl children and stop any kind of abuse against them.
The children stood with different placards to speak and raise their voice against the abuses meted on them which is on increase at this time of crises due Covid-19.
