The executive committee of the Sohra District Demand Forum held a meeting yesterday at the office of the Syiem of Hima Sohra where it was agree to stick to the demand for the upgrade of Sohra civil sub-division to a full-fledged district.
The forum also decided that they will write to the Chief Minister on this matter and to apprise the government that the headquarters of the proposed district should be Sohra, which is the centre of all the surrounding villages under the sub-division.
The forum also said that when they meet the CM soon on the matter, they will produce all the related documents to justify their stand.
The forum also reminded the government that Sohra is already equipped with lands and buildings that can be used for the setting of various government offices if the new district is created. The members also disagreed with the recent statement made by the CM that Sohra’s geography is proving a hurdle when it comes to mapping the deep valleys that divide Sohra from Pynursla.
“The forum stands by its demand made since 2018 to give Sohra district status and the excuses made by the government not to give Sohra a district status are unfounded,” Roy Kupar Synrem, secretary of the forum, said.
