Women of Sohmynting village in West Jaiñtia Hills district were allegedly duped by a man posing as employee of two LPG agencies and lost over Rs 3 lakh to avail connection.
These women today lodged an FIR at the Jowai police station against one Ialam Makri of Umsning Nongthymmai in Ri Bhoi district stating that 93 women had paid the person to avail a cylinder and stove.
The women said some of them paid Rs 2500, Rs 4000 and Rs 6000 to get LPG connection to Makri, who introduced himself as an employee of Ri Pnar and Rymbai gas agencies, even used stamping seals of “Indane Cylinder Gas Store” and “Indane Gas Cylinder” and cash memos were issued to them after payment.
The collection was made since May, 2023 and only 20 women received the connection and till date his whereabouts is unknown, the women said.
