Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today inaugurated a rural market complex at Sohiong which aims to cater to about 200 villages under Hima Sohiong.
The market was constructed with funds from the North Eastern Council (NEC) and BASIN at Rs 12.90 crore. It houses 112 stalls with facilities for cold storage and parking.
Villagers from Hima Sohiong, Nongspung, Nongkhlaw, Mylliem and Mawphlang can now use the market complex.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the rural market will benefit the farmers and announced that a waste collection vehicle would be funded under the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund (CMSDF) for the area.
“Whatever necessary support that is required to have a proper waste disposal system will be extended by the government and funds will be provided under the Swach Bharat Mission for waste disposal,” he said.
He also added that Sohiong area is producing many promising sportspersons and has a huge potential in sports therefore a stadium would be constructed in Sohiong. He also informed that an amount of Rs 3 crore is earmarked for improving the block infrastructure in Sohiong.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also distributed Rs 47, 75,000 to 73 producer groups under the FOCUS programme during the event.
