Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) candidate for Sohiong, Sandondor Rynthathiang, today claimed that the National People’s Party (NPP) stands no chance in May 10’s Sohiong Assembly constituency election.
Polling in Sohiong was adjourned after the demise of United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate HDR Lyngdoh on February 20, one week before the state elections. There are six candidates who have filed their nomination papers for the election, including a replacement candidate from the UDP.
The incumbent MLA is Samlin Malngiang, who had won in 2018 on an HSPDP ticket but left the party for the NPP this year.
“The NPP is a very new party to Sohiong and the NPP candidate has no vote bank and the people have not accepted the party,” Ryntathiang told reporters today, adding that the party did not do well in Khasi Hills during the recent election and this will be repeated in Sohiong.
He urged people to choose wisely and not be duped by money power or other entertainment and neither be clouded by emotions or believe in sympathy votes but to choose a leader who can serve and bring development.
Stressing on the roster system, the HSPDP candidate said that it will directly affect the livelihoods of the Khasi-Jaintia people if implemented retrospectively.
