Jimmison Marweiñ from Maranglang-Nongmawlein village in South West Khasi Hills district has won a gold and silver medal at the Asian Arm Wrestling Cup 2024 held in Mumbai recently.
The Asian Arm Wrestling Cup saw nine nations compete in six different categories: para, masters, sub junior, junior, youth and seniors in various weight categories.
The 18-year old student of Sngap Syiem College, Mawkyrwat who competed in the 70 kg clinched gold in left hand and silver in right hand.
Speaking to reporters, Jimmison dedicated his win to the college principal, teachers, his coach and family. He said took up the strength sport after he discovered his talent in the college week 2023. From then on he started training and made use of the ‘Gym Centre’ set up by the college.
Elated by his feat, the college in the presence of Principal Dr KK Nongsiej felicitated Jimmison today.
Nongsiej said Jimmison is an inspiration for others students to emulate not just in education but in sports too. Talent should not go to waste because it is a valuable gift that can be used to make a positive impact on the society and the community, he said.
