Shillong, Jan 19: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the murder of ACHIK leader, Dilseng Sangma.
The team will be headed by Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Dadenggre, R.A Sangma.
Meanwhile West Garo Hills District Police have arrested eight persons in the case following sustained operations across different parts of Meghalaya and neighbouring Assam over the past week.
The arrested accused are Anarul Islam (30), Rafiqul Islam (47), Atowar Hussain (40), Ariful Islam (30), Ashadur Sk. (21), Mozidur Hussain (22), Mofidur Hussain (33), and Mozahidur Rahman (22).
All the accused have been produced before the competent court and are currently in police custody.
West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Abraham T. Sangma said all out efforts are being made to apprehend others involved in the incident. He urged people having information about the incident, suspects, or individual (s) involved in the incident may contact the officer in his mobile number at 7005680094.
“The West Garo Hills District Police assure the general public and all concerned that no stone shall be left unturned to nab all the accused persons involved in the incident and bring them to justice as per the law of the land,” the SP said.
Further, the police have appealed people to maintain peace and harmony in the district, and not to be misled by rumours or unverified content. “All are requested to refrain from spreading or forwarding such messages, and to act responsibly on social media,” the police said.
