Noted Khasi folk musician Silbi Passah today received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for the year 2021.
Passah who is a resident of Riatsamthiah, Shillong got the award in the field of folk music in Meghalaya. She received cash prize of Rs 1 lakh besides a copper plate and stole.
A total of 128 artists from the field of music, dance, theatre, traditional, folk, and puppetry were given the awards which included Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Fellowships (Akademi Ratna) and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards (Akademi Puruskar) for the year 2019, 2020 and 2021
The awards were presented by President of India, Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi today.
Also present in the awards ceremony were Minister of Culture, Tourism and DONER G Kishan Reddy, Minister of state for Parliamentary Affairs & Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal, Sangeet Natak Akademi Chairman Dr. Sandhya Purecha and Ministry of Culture Joint Secretary Uma Nadnuri.
