North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice-Chancellor, Prabha Shankar Shukla, today requested an extension of his leave until December 29.
In an emailed letter to the University’s Registrar, Shukla stated that “unforeseen circumstances” have led to him making the plea for an extension. Shukla’s first period of extended leave ended on December 13.
Shukla was the focus of intense protests led by students into the way the university was being run and led to a committee being constituted by the Union Ministry of Education.
The committee was constituted on November 14 and the panel was meant to submit its report by November 29. However, the two-member committee asked for a 15-day extension to submit its findings.
In his continued absence, the senior-most professor or Pro Vice-Chancellor shall look after the routine work of NEHU in place of Shukla.
