In an effort to promote cleanliness in the city, all commercial establishments, including street vendors, have been directed by the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) to put dustbins in front of their shops/establishments for use by customers and passersby.
In a notice dated February 12 but shared with the press today, the CEO of the SMB also directed that the shopkeepers and street vendors must ensure that the dustbins are well maintained and that the waste is properly disposed of in SMB garbage trucks.
This direction was issued with the objective to achieve a litter-free city by April 2025.
