Shillong, Feb 3: A large quantity fake Surf Excel detergent, a popular washing powder was seized from a shop in Ïewduh here.
According to police, the owner of the shop, A.K. Enterprise was detained.
The probe into the matter was launched when Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) lodged a consumer complaint with a Kolkata-based law firm, Lex Meliora.
Based on the complaint the team conducted a thorough investigation and market survey in Ïewduh and lodged a complaint under the Copyright Act was lodged at the Lumdiengjri Police Station.
According to the team, the counterfeit products closely resembled the original brand in appearance, packaging, and labelling that is difficult for an ordinary consumer to distinguish between genuine and fake products, thereby misleading customers into purchasing duplicate goods.
