The football-crazy city of Shillong is set to welcome back the 134th edition of the Durand Cup for the second consecutive year, reigniting the passion of fans in one of India’s most vibrant footballing regions.
As the city dons its colours and readies its chants, all eyes are set on the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, which will host the inaugural Group E match on July 26 at 4pm.
In what promises to be a high-octane opener, local favourites and last year’s semifinalists Shillong Lajong FC will kick off their campaign against the Malaysian Armed Forces team, one of the two international teams participating in this year’s tournament.
Lajong will be looking to build on their strong showing from 2024 in front of a packed home crowd.
