The Manipuri Elders’ Consortium Shillong (MECS) organised a protest today to condemn the use of weaponised drones and sophisticated weapons by militants to attack both security forces and civilians in Manipur.
The protest, held at Manipuri Rajbari here, saw people carrying placards to demand the end to the killing of Meiteis and for a restoration of internet services in the Imphal Valley.
MECS president N Munish Singh highlighted the urgency of the situation, urging the government to ensure the safety of villagers. The community plans to write to the central government to seek immediate intervention and support for the affected population.
The ethnic conflict in Manipur is now in its 16th month, has claimed more than 250 lives and displaced around 60,000 people.
Singh called on the government to take swift measures to restore peace in Manipur. The Manipur government has imposed a temporary internet ban amid ongoing protests and imposed an indefinite curfew in valley districts.
