Shillong, Aug 19: The Shillong Medical College (SMC) is ready to start holding classes and is only waiting on a formal letter of permission from the National Medical Commission, Health and Family Welfare Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said today.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said the permission is outside the purview of the state government but she is confident that the college is ready to start the academic year.
The incumbent Director of RIMS Imphal has taken charge of the SMC, one of two medical colleges set up by the state government, the other being in Tura, which will be run on a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
“If you ask me if we are ready, I will say yes. The Director has taken over and she’s already been released from her post at RIMS Imphal,” Lyngdoh said.
