Shillong-based writer Bijoya Sawian will be honoured at the 3rd Aalekh Foundation Women Achievers’ Awards on July 19 in New Delhi, as one of 20 women selected from across India, for her work and impact in diverse fields.
Sawian has written works of fiction, such as “Shadow Men” and “Hill Songs of Love and Longing” and translated “The Teachings of Elders” and “The Main Ceremonies of the Khasis”.
The ceremony in Delhi will be attended by R Venkataramani, the Attorney General of India, and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, a former judge of the Supreme Court.
Rennie Joyy, founder of the Aalekh Foundation, said in a release, “Bijoya Sawian’s work is a quiet revolution in literature, restoring dignity, voice and visibility to stories that often go unheard. We are proud to honour women like her who shape narratives, nurture legacies and remind us of the power of words to preserve and transform.”
