Kolkata native, Samridh Sen fired a round two over 72 to take the lead in round one of the Shillong Amateur Open Golf 2021, which is being held at the Shillong Golf Course.
Sen, who is riding on the confidence of 5 top ten finishes in his five starts this season, displayed spectacular golf on his way to the clubhouse to go two shots clear off his nearest competitor and veteran, Abhishek Mitra.
Mitra who made winning a habit playing in the Mid Amateur division followed the leader home coming in second in Amateur while leading in Mid Amateur after carding a round of four over 74.
Jakir Hussain and KI Singh both returned with scores of five over 75 to jointly take the 3rd place after the first round. With a round to spare, it’s still anybody’s game considering how packed the leader board is in the Amateur division.
As stated earlier, Mitra’s tremendous effort got him the lead in Mid Amateur with Jakir Hussain and K I Singh breathing down the neck of him trailing by just a shot. Another golfer who should fancy his chances in this category is one of the favourites in the field, Gaurav Bajaj who signed for a round of seven over 77.
In Senior Category, Benu Malakar brought out his best as he carded a round of 78 to take the sole lead. SN Chowdhury and Hector Marwein both shot 82 today to share the second spot. Marwein took the lead in the Super Senior followed by Anil Pargal and K Indrajit who shot 85 and 86 respectively. In Ladies division, Smt K Brahma carded 93 to take the lead while Mrs Jyoti Agarwal’s 94 gave her the sole second position.
In the Junior Category 1, Da I Paya Dkhar and Shivaai Agarwal were declared joint winners and in Junior Category 2, Aryan Bajaj and Sharanya Bajaj lifted the winner and runners up position.
