Apart from the faithful, two non-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs were seen at the RSS programme here today – Himalaya Shangpliang and Wailadmiki Shylla.
With state elections only a few months away, every move the legislators make is carefully scrutinised and can lead to a flurry of rumours.
Shangpliang, the Mawsynram MLA, is of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) while Shylla, the Jowai MLA, is from the National People’s Party (NPP).
This is not the first time that Shangpliang has been seen at a BJP event, having attended the visit of Droupadi Murmu before she was elected as the new President of India. Many of his constituency supporters have already joined the BJP.
Pynthorumkhrah MLA AL Hek said that the BJP is an emerging party and that is why many people want to join it. However, when asked about the duo’s presence at today’s event, he merely said that must have wanted to experience the programme as “they are all Indians”.
