The East Jaiñtia Hills Additional District Magistrate has promulgated an order under Section 144 Cr P C prohibiting burning of grasses, forest in the barren land near Deinsatlang, Nongthymme, Moopala villages.
The order was passed after forest fires were detected in these villages. The additional magistrate said that the cause of the fire cannot be ascertained but it is suspected that the barren lands there were cleared for agricultural purposes.
“Such forest fires should be prohibited in the barren land which might pose serious threats not only to the forest wealth but also to the entire regime of flora and fauna thereby disturbing the bio diversity, ecology and environment,” the order said.
