The West Jaiñtia Hills district magistrate has prohibited movement of people at the international border with the intention to cross over to Bangladesh or to sneak in to India territory.
The order passed under Section 144 Cr PC stated that this was done to prevent trans-border crime including smuggling of cattle, contraband goods and other illegal activities which may cause breach of peace and annoyance, injury to BSF Personnel who are lawfully engaged in the international border.
“Illegal, undesirable activities, smuggling of cattle/contraband goods, betel nut, betel leaves, dry fish, biri, cigarettes, chai/patti etc is prohibited,” the order said adding that use of sharp edged weapons, petrol bomb, crackers and lathi charge etc. against BSF is also prohibited.
