The Sohra Sub-Divisional Magistrate has prohibited trucks from carrying boulders and sand beyond permissible limit and transportation of the materials between 5 am to 8 pm towards Shillong- Sohra Road.
Violation will attract action under relevant sections of law, an order issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita said.
The order was passed after many 16-wheeler sand and boulder-laden trucks were found to be carrying loads in excess of permissible norms, posing a significant risk to road users and to curb the menace of overloaded trucks that have been causing accidents on the sharp bends of the road.
This move is expected to bring much-needed relief to commuters who have been facing hazards due to overloaded trucks on the Shella-Sohra road.
