Shillong, Feb 11: The 20th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting organised by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ri Bhoi brought together experts and stakeholders to chart a course for enhanced agricultural progress in the district.
Subject Matter Specialists (SMSs) across disciplines presented their annual progress report highlighting achievements in technology dissemination, farmer training, and crop productivity. They also unveiled detailed Annual Action Plans for 2026-27, focusing on sustainable farming practices, soil health, and climate-resilient varieties tailored to Northeast Hill Region challenges, especially of Ri Bhoi District.
Key proposals emphasized at the meeting are expanded outreach, region specific agriculture trials and demonstrations, and expanding integrated farming systems to maximize benefits for local farmers, addressing issues like erratic monsoons and market linkages.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. S. Ghatak, Director of ICAR-Research Complex for NEH Region and attended by scientists from ATARI Zone-VII, NBPGR Regional Station Shillong, and faculty from CPGS-AS, CAU (I), Umiam, alongside officials and representatives from various Agriculture and allied offices of the district and progressive farmers.
Dr. Ghatak commended the KVK’s role in bridging research and practice, urging collaborative efforts for self-reliant agriculture.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to implement the revised plans, promising tangible gains for Ri Bhoi’s farming community.
