Editor,
I am appalled at the insensitivity of some of the affluent parents who harbour the notion that teachers and school staff can survive only on free gifts of nature i.e. air, water and sunshine. So they bully school administrations to dodge paying fees.
Private schools depend solely on fees of students for their upkeep and salary of staff. Taking cognisance of this, even the apex court of the country has ruled out that schools are to charge tuition fees of students for the whole year. Besides, our State government has made adequate provision in their administration for child rights and private schools are not oblivious of the fact that they are constantly under the scanner.
Strange enough to note that when schools discounted fees in 2020 owing to the virulent Covid-19, there was no note of thankfulness or write-up in the media. The teaching fraternity of such schools has shown immense skill, resilience and innovation in ensuring that there is no disruption in teaching, learning even under adverse situations.
Perhaps some parents are of the opinion that teachers have to forego their remuneration for teaching their wards. How can a society, state or nation progress if educated parents show such apathy towards teachers and school?
