Hingaria Lower Primary School in East Jaiñtia Hills district, which was damaged when cyclone Sitrang hit the State in October last year, has still not been repaired, leaving parents worried as the school session will soon resumes after the winter vacation.
The entire roof of the school was blown away by gusty winds accompanied by rains caused by the cyclone.
Waheh Shnong of Hingaria, Thepmon Khonglah said on October 27, the dorbar had written to the Deputy Commissioner and sought immediate financial assistance and relief to the school for repair works, but nothing has come to the school management even as officials from the education department had inspected the damage.
Khonglah said the school requires an RCC building for better functioning and safety of the students.
He also expressed concern that with Assembly elections to be held in a month, the school which is listed as one of the polling stations, election officials will have to sit roofless.
