Students of a school in West Jaiñtia Hills district today braved rains and came out in support of a rape survivor and demand stringent punishment for the accused.
The 12-year-old girl a student of Class 7 was attacked by a 31-year-old male suspect in her own home while the rest of her family had gone out. A rape case under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act was registered against the accused who was arrested. The child bore multiple injuries and was put under medical observation at a hospital in Shillong.
The placards condemning rape was a clear message that rape culture should be stopped.
