The family of a teacher at Christ International School, Nongsder, in Ri-Bhoi, have filed a complaint with police accusing the institution’s principal of sexual harassment.
The unnamed teacher has claimed that the principal, C Vargese, had made unwanted advances towards her and, when she turned him down, began to harass her and find fault with her behaviour and teaching as a means to persecute or pressure her into giving in. She was eventually removed as a teacher at the school, she claimed.
Family members of the victim have filed an FIR with Umiam police.
Certain pressure groups also took matters into their own hands and interrogated Vergese today. The principal denied the allegations made against him. The pressure group members then went and padlocked a hotel owned by Vergese nearby.
