Shillong, Sep 25: A school girl concocted story about being robbed due to fear of having spent all the money for purchasing an item online, police said today.
The schoolgirl told the police she was robbed of Rs 300 by four unidentified miscreants and was threatened with a knife at Lumiablot, Nongthymmai on August 25. Based on her compliant, police filed a case against the unidentified miscreants at Nongthymmai Beat House.
The incident which had caused immense consternation and apprehension amongst the public, however turned out to be a made up story.
“After a thorough investigation including recording of the statement of the minor girl before a Magistrate in the District Court, the minor girl confessed that she had given the money to her friend for purchasing an item online. Due to fear of having spent all the money, she had fabricated the entire story of getting robbed. Hence, the incident never occurred as alleged and that the incident as reported is not a fact,” East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said in a statement.
He said a final report into the case will be submitted and reminded that giving false information (FIR) to the Police is an offence and legal action can be taken accordingly.
