Police have rearrested suspended MPS officer Gabriel K Iangrai shortly after his release from jail.
Iangrai today got bail after spending more than three months in prison in connection with a corruption case registered against him.
However, moments after he was released, he was taken into the custody of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) which is probing his case.
He was arrested on November 2, 2022 from his residence in connection with the alleged misappropriation of government funds earmarked for the construction of the National Emergency Response System (NERS) Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) facility at Sadar Police Station Complex in Shillong.
After coming out of Shillong jail, Iangrai told media persons that he was innocent and was made a scapegoat. He also alleged that his arrest was part of a major plot.
He also claimed that there are a lot of scams in the Police Department which he would expose “at an appropriate time”.
Reminding about the encounter death of former HNLC leader Cheristerfield Thangkhiew at his own residence, Iangrai said that on November 2, when he came to know that police were coming to arrest him he fled and hid.
“I had to hide because I was scared that they would replicate the Cheristerfield episode because they are the same – the same masterminds,” he said.
