The State Bank of India (SBI) distributed essential items for 230 families in West Garo Hills as part of its corporate social responsibility scheme yesterday.
The items, comprising woolen blankets, woolen caps, notebooks and torches, were provided by the SBI’s Regional Business Office in Tura.
The handover was held in collaboration with A’chik Heritage Pursuits. Baby blankets were handed over to the District Maternal and Child Health Officer, Dr Ivonne M. Sangma, to be distributed later.
Seven villages were identified for the distribution, namely Chiwatagre, Mandalgre, Rongkinggre, Bandigre, Ampangre, Rongchek Chambugong and Rongchek Manda.
These were chosen as they are some of the remotest places in Garo Hills situated along the Simsang River.
