The president of the ‘Khooid Ya Ka Wah Myntdu’ has strongly condemned the continuation of sand mining along Myntdu River, despite the ban on the practice.
“The sand mining activities at Myntdu River these days are illegal and in violation of the order issued by the District Magistrate of West Jaintia Hills, who has barred sand and stone mining from Myntdu,” Khroo L Pariat said.
Sand mining is partly responsible for the low quality of water supplied by the Public Health Engineering Department to homes and businesses in Jowai.
Pariat urged the Deputy Commissioner to religiously implement the order barring illegal mining on the river.
