Shillong, Jan 18: South Shillong MLA and cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai on Friday reviewed ongoing development projects in the Raid Laban area with a total outlay exceeding Rs 11 crore. The projects include road widening works and the development of a football ground.
Officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), Sports and Youth Affairs Department and Water Resources Department accompanied the minister during the inspection, along with representatives of Raid Laban.
Shullai said the projects were taken up after the state government sanctioned Rs 11.23 crore. Of the total amount, nearly Rs 4 crore has been earmarked for the PWD to widen the road from the Raid Laban College gate to Pom Muid.
The MLA acknowledged the cooperation of the Raid Laban shnong and Raid Laban College for providing land required for the road expansion.
He also visited the existing football ground and the site where artificial turf is being laid, stating that around Rs 6 crore has been sanctioned for the development of the facility.
Meanwhile, Shullai informed that the Water Resources Department has prepared a detailed project report (DPR) for the construction of a check dam, with an estimated cost of about Rs 2 crore. He said the proposed structure would help conserve water for use at the football ground and also support water availability in the wider Laban area.
