Shillong, Jan 17: Tura Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP), who is a member of North Eastern Frontier Railways Saleng A Sangma has said that the state government has taken funds amounting to around Rs. 200 crore plus for the railways for construction of rail head in the state.

“Maybe because of the Rs. 200 crore plus, the state government is trying to bull doze the locals to part with their lands,” Sangma alleged.

The MP said that the government has taken the amount on the pretext of giving compensation to people.

He said that stakeholders especially in Khasi-Jaintia Hills region do not want a rail-head fearing illegal immigration.

Stating that the fears are true, Sangma said it was alarming since there is no proper security system in the railway station.

The Tura MP said that during a recent meeting, he pointed out to the officials of the NEFR, there are many things that have to be corrected.

“There is no proper checking, no security system to see who is getting inside the train. That’s why our people should be worried,” Sangma said.

He pointed out that people of the state wants development, but in doing so if the indigenous people cannot reap its benefit, what will be the use of advancement.

Sangma said that if Meghalaya is swarmed by non-indigenous people what will be the use of development.
