The National People’s Party (NPP) candidate for the upcoming Rajabala by-election, Abdus Saleh, today filed his nomination accompanied by the NPP president and Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma.
No nominations were filed yesterday, the first day open to nominations. At least three other candidates are expected to also contest, with Saleh being the first.
Saleh was also accompanied by his wife as well as other NPP leaders during his nomination.
The former two-time MLA from Mahendraganj constituency had unsuccessfully contested the Rajabala seat in the last two state elections. His candidature is expected to be supported by former MDC Sofiur Rehman.
Saleh filed his papers at about 1pm this afternoon, with a slight delay in compiling documents for his nomination, with the Returning Officer, Charmingstar N Sangma, at the office of the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner.
