Shillong, Dec 10: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today said the state government is in the final stage to approve a salary structure for nearly 20,000 ad hoc and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers.
Sangma said the proposed framework aims to bring stability, clarity on annual increments and greater financial security for teachers who fall outside the regular government system.
“It’s a new system that offers stability, not just a government system,” he said at the platinum jubilee celebration of Umphyrnai Presbyterian School (LP section).
Sangma said that the State spends Rs 1,200 crore annually on grant-in-aid for deficit schools and colleges describing it as “an investment in society.”
Acknowledging challenges in teacher qualifications, he noted progress is being made as many educators are now meeting national norms with government support.
He said with nearly 25 teacher associations there are complexities in the education structure that require solutions that don’t harm livelihoods. “We must take decisions with empathy, carrying everyone along,” he added.
