Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui today promised to intervene so that Lady Keane College can operate smoothly after it was slapped with a massive bill.
Recently, the city college was ordered to pay Rs 45 lakh as a service charge by the Shillong Cantonment Board, whose land the campus falls on.
Lady Keane College is one of the oldest such institutions and the first for women in the entire North East.
“I have spoken to the principal of the college to get an insight and was told that this is the first time that they are being taxed,” Rymbui said. “From the government side, we will do everything to ensure that this prestigious college can function without any pressure from anybody.”
