National secretary of the BJP Rituraj Sinha has squarely blamed Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui for the Mukroh incident and demanded his immediate resignation.
Stating that the home minister has failed in managing the police force, Sinha at a press conference here today said that law and order is a part of governance and since the home minister is responsible he should take accountability for the failure of his department.
“It is time for the home minister to take some responsibility and resign because he has been unable to discharge his duties,” Sinha said.
Sinha further took a dig at Rymbui for the way the police force is managed in Meghalaya with everything centred on Shillong while the border areas remain without any security.
Informing that he met the families of the five victims of Mukroh firing incident yesterday evening and extended financial assistance to them, Sinha demanded a government job to at least one from each of the affected families.
“Some of them are 39 years old, 40 years old and are having four children, five children and underage children. They have a whole life to look after. So I urge the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma to kindly give a government job to one from each family because they really need support from the government in the long term,” Sinha said.
He also said that the BJP will also be writing to the government about this.
When asked about the central perspective into the whole current law and order situation in Meghalaya, Sinha said that violence is not going to be a solution to any problem.
“Attacking outsiders, stopping roads is not going to solve the issue. We need to sit down across the table and talk,” he added.
