United Democratic Party (UDP) legislator and Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui, today said that the parliamentary party of the UDP has no knowledge about the demand issued by General Secretary Jemino Mawthoh for Power Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) MLA James K Sangma to resign.
Yesterday evening, Mawthoh had written a letter to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma demanding the removal of James and the Chairman and Managing Director of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL), Arun Kumar Kembhavi, for the poor state of the power sector in the state.
Speaking to reporters, Rymbui denied any division in the party even as he added that the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government has a coordination committee to solve issues cropping up within the coalition.
However, he said that frequent load shedding has affected the daily lives of Meghalayans but the CM and Power Minister had taken up the matter in all earnestness. He also expressed confidence that James would be able to solve the problems in the power sector.
Meanwhile, Rymbui also described it as “unacceptable” that the power generating companies are dictating terms to the state government.
