RTI activist and Vice President of ACHIK, Greneth M Sangma has questioned the recruitment of five non-Garo instructors at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI).
According to Sangma the principle of the Meghalaya Job Reservation Policy, 1972 was totally negated as a series of non-Garo instructors were appointed when there are hundreds of Garo eligible candidates.
He said he has sought information through online RTI on the appointments and employee structure at the Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training in this regard
“What concerns us is that, when the same trades are still vacant in different parts in Khasi hills government ITI, what could be the better reason that vacant posts in Garo Hills are filled up by taking away the livelihood of Garo instructors who were working in the same ITI for about 4-7 years on contractual basis,” he said in a statement.
He stated that the vacant posts were earlier held by Garo instructors, either on permanent post or contractual, yet when the replacement is being done the non-Garo candidates are being appointed, which is questionable.
“ACHIK will be gathering information on these matters as well as the on other things such as on the efficacy and expenditures on the implementation of crores of rupees in the department funded by Asian Development Bank,” he added.
