An Rs 8.5 crore project for additional water supply for South Shillong will be complete by the end of March.
Local MLA Sanbor Shullai held a meeting with stakeholders here on Thursday. The meeting was attended by officials of the Public Health Engineering Department and headmen and other representatives of the respective dorbar shnongs.
The project for 2021-22 was sanctioned under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and Special Plan Assistance (SPA).
A joint inspection was then held yesterday, taking in Wahsohklur, Madan Laban Nepali School, Bishnupur-Kench’s Trace, Kench’s Trace Oxford Rilbong, Lumparing and Laban, including the main water source of Wahjallanoh and Wahrisa.
Shullai appealed to the PHE Department and Shillong Municipal Board to replace old, leaking pipes in all the localities and replace and re-align them.
Department representatives assured that the completion and commissioning of additional water supply, including changing of old pipes, will be completed by the end of March.
