The Border Security Force (BSF) seized smuggled goods worth around Rs 49.20 crore and arrested 182 individuals for various crimes along the international border in Meghalaya, a press release informed today.
The smuggled goods included cattle, sugar, fake Indian currency notes (FICN), narcotics and other items.
Those arrested comprised 113 Indians, 67 Bangladeshis and two Rohingyas from Myanmar.
Besides its border duties, the BSF Meghalaya actively engaged in 45 civic action programmes, including 24 medical camps, with communities living near the international boundary, to foster mutual trust and strengthen relations with the local communities.
The BSF also hosted sports and other events over the course of 2023 and participated in blood donation drives, cleaning operations, etc.
