The Meghalaya government has earmarked a total outlay of Rs 36 crore for a period of six years for the protection and recovery of the state animal of Meghalaya, the clouded leopard.
Forest and Environment Minister, James Sangma, announced this during his speech as the guest of honour at the 49th Meghalaya Day celebrations here today.
“The clouded leopard is the state animal and every citizen of Meghalaya must ensure that we protect this state animal of ours,” Sangma said.
He also announced that a total of Rs 3.84 crore for a period of four years has been earmarked for the conservation of the small cats and other elusive mammals in the state.
