The Rot Association of Meghalaya (RAM), an organisation that represents sex workers, has decried the police complaints made against it, including a recent complaint of defamation.
In an email today purporting to be from RAM publicity secretary D Mawlong, said that sex workers are also entitled to freedom of expression.
A young woman had recently complained to the authorities after RAM accused her of misappropriating the organisation’s money.
Mawlong stated that the police practise double standards in being quick to file FIRs against RAM but refusing to lodge a criminal case against a sitting MLA and his relatives in connection with a death of a woman.
Highland Post has emailed a list of questions to RAM, asking for evidence of the allegations the group has been making, but no reply has so far been forthcoming.
