The Achik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) today said that the order of the Meghalaya High Court on roster system should be respected for the interest of justice and benefit of the people Meghalaya.
In a press release AHAM President Georgeprince Momin said the Voice of the People Party (VPP) chief Ardent M Basaiawmoit and the Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) should uphold the verdict of the court which is an independent institution.
“The Judiciary is an independent and it is the mandate of law that the government to implement the court’s order by putting the roster system in place to implement the reservation policy effectively and meaningfully which will benefit different sections of people of the state,” Momin said.
Quoting Para-6 of the May 10, 2022 office memorandum, which paved way for implementation of the reservation roster, the AHAM president said, “For instance if there are four post of Garo category and another four post for Khasi & Jaintia categories and during the recruitment there are two Garos eligible/qualify to the post and other two post remain vacant, then in the next recruitment the two vacant post will be carried forward for Garo category, which means if there are another two new post for Garo category then the last two vacant post would be added which will become total of four post for Garo category.”
Stating that para-7 of the office memorandum also clearly mention that reservation roster is only to ensure the implementation of the reservation policy, he said, “This means that the roster system is a mechanism/instrument/system/tool for implementation of the reservation policy.”
