The Garo Student’s Union (GSU) has slammed Voice of the People Party (VPP) legislator Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit for raking up the roster system stating that it was done to gain political mileage and cause disharmony.
Stating that the union is concerned by the statement of the VPP chief and the intention to rake up the issue, the GSU in a statement said the roster system is already an efficient mechanism approved by the High Court of Meghalaya.
“It has to be questioned as to what the VPP president is trying to achieve or what his intentions are by providing wrong assessment to the people about the roster system,” GSU president Zikku Balgra N Marak said.
Pointing out that the roster system is transparent, effective and efficient system through which opportunity is being provided to all equally the GSU accused Basaiawmoit stating, “The VPP president seem to hugely in favour of backdoor appointments, job for money and nepotism and a deeply vested interest to deprive the Garo community of opportunities.”
Participating in the debate on the budget speech yesterday, Basaiawmoit had raised concerns over the Reservation Policy and said that the roster system should be put on hold pending a review of the reservation policy.
He pointed out that there is no provision for the reservation of PwDs or differently-abled persons but changes have been made to allow people from outside the state to avail the benefit.
