Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Ronnie V Lyngdoh today welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to grant a stay on the conviction of senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case. He said that the truth had prevailed and justice delivered.
The apex court stayed Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in the defamation case against him for his alleged remarks against the Modi community that led to his disqualification as Lok Sabha MP.
“Truth has prevailed, justice has been delivered democracy has won and the constitution of the country has been upheld,” the Congress leader said on the sidelines of a silent rally held here to pray for peace in violence-hit Manipur.
He said there leaves a lot to be desired about the judiciary in Gujarat where even the observation of the highest court in the country has questioned the way the case has been handled.
Lyngdoh said the decision of the Supreme Court had strengthened the faith and respect of people. “This is not about the victory of one man. It is the victory of India and we still believe in the saying that India is the biggest democracy.”
