Robust representation from North East MPs is required to get pending issues like the Inner Line Permit (ILP) approved by the central government, Meghalaya’s lone Rajya Sabha MP, Wanweiroy Kharlukhi, has said.
Speaking to reporters today, Kharlukhi highlighted the ILP and inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages as key concerns that have failed to get positive results from the Centre despite the efforts of the Meghalaya government, its MPs and civil groups.
On ILP, Kharlukhi pointed out that Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram have had the permit system in place for several years, while it was introduced in Manipur only recently.
The MP stressed that stronger representation in Parliament would facilitate progress on this matter.
