The Public Health Engineering Department, in collaboration with the office of the District Sports Officer of East Khasi Hills, organised a 5km and 10km run on Saturday as part of World Water Day 2024.
The run took place in and around the adjoining areas of Polo, with the start and finish point at the JN Stadium.
The theme for this year’s World Water Day set by the United Nations is ‘Water for Peace’ and this event held today aims at spreading awareness about the pivotal role of water in fostering stability and prosperity around the world. This initiative marks the beginning of a series of activities leading up to the main event on March 22.

The winner of the men’s category 10km race was Kelash Choudary, with Anil Pandya second and Emphius Nongrum third. The corresponding women’s category was won by Marqueenles Ramsiej, with Phyrnai Kyndait second and Darishisha Iangjuh second.
The 5km boys’ race was won by Sanctify Pale, with Fastborn Son Ramsiej second and Biness Kharlyngdoh third. The girls’ race saw Teilyntishisha Ramsiej finish first, followed by Lawanlang Mawlong and Camilia Kharkongor.
