The Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh has said that it looks ridiculous for a university which was passed by the state legislature which failed to operationalise.
“It is ridiculous on the part of those people who wanted to establish this private university (Techno Global University), and on the then government also how did they passed the act without really examining the matter,” Myrboh said.
It may be mentioned that Meghalaya’s Techno Global University (TGU) has been removed from the list of universities in India.
He also said that it looks bad on the fact that after passing the act for establishment of the private university it failed to take off.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) took the decision after the State education department recommended removal of the university from the UGC list as it did not exist.
TGU was established as a State private university and its name was added in UGC’s list in January 2013.
“The Techno Global University, Shillong Polytechnic Campus, Mawlai, Shillong, Meghalaya was established by the government of Meghalaya as a State private university,” the UGC said.
“However, the education department, government of Meghalaya vide its letter dated 27.09.2022 recommended removing the name of university from the UGC list of universities since the university was non-existent,” the UGC said in its notice.
TGU was established in 2008 to offer courses on physical sciences, life sciences, technology, medical science and paramedical, management, finance and accounting, commerce, humanities, languages and communication, applied and performing arts, education, law, social science and related areas. The courses were sponsored by Techno India, Kolkata, West Bengal.
However, TGU in its website of TGU stated: “Techno Global University Shillong, has never started any academic activity since inception. We have never issued any marksheet, certificate and degree to any person. We have also never authorised any person or institution to act on behalf of us.”
