Commercial vehicle drivers and owners in Ri-Bhoi today decided to prolong their protest if their demands are not met by the state government.
The strikers want a reduction in the price of fuel and/or hike in fares and relief on their 2020-21 taxes.
The Joint Action Committee of All Ri Bhoi Passenger Vehicles held a public meeting at Nongpoh today and followed it with a rally from Pahamsyiem ground to the office of the District Transport Officer and later submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, urging for immediate intervention to discuss the matter with the state government.
The protest was also supported by the Hynniewtrep A’chik National Movement, and the Joint Action Committee leaders of All Meghalaya Commercial Vehicles Association.
