The problem of waste disposal in Ri-Bhoi was raised today, with the MLA and MDC of Jirang, Deputy Commissioner and leaders of the Synjuk Ki Dorbar Shnong Byrnihat Area getting a first-hand understanding of the problem.
Residents openly dump their garbage in places where they have no proper waste disposal system. The two sites that were inspected today were National Highway 6 and Byrnihat’s weekly market.
Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun and the Synjuk Ki Dorbar Shnong Byrnihat Area have time and again raised the need for a proper dumping ground so that waste can be disposed of properly.
Sohtun and the Synjuk informed that a petition will be submitted to the government in this regard and they warned that open waste disposal could lead to health and environmental problems.
